The 11th
annual convention of the Florida Academy of Audiology (FLAA) will be
held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg, FL
on August 30- September 1, 2007. This year’s theme “Hear the Future”
highlights the diverse dimensions of audiology. Scholars from
different academic backgrounds and scientists from manufacturing
companies will offer high quality lectures that will provide updates
on the most contemporary knowledge in hearing-related sciences. Topics
will range from amplification and rehabilitation to
electrophysiological recordings, tinnitus, and practice management.
In addition, there will be a large exhibit hall with representatives
from many major companies providing time to learn about the most
recent technological advancements. A highlight of the Exhibit Hall
will be the silent auction where participants can bid on many superior
products and services. Participants will also have time to network
and share at meals and numerous breaks.

Overview
The convention will
begin with a Golf Tournament at 8am at the Renaissance Vinoy Golf Club
designed by renowned golf course architect, Ron Garl. The golf course
is a beautiful 72 par course that winds through palms, mangroves and
wetlands and features two double greens, an island green, and ten
spacious lakes. In the afternoon, four speakers will present their
lectures. These will include: an exciting lecture by Dr. Jack Katz on
Auditory Processing Disorders, a presentation from a research group at
the University of South Florida introducing a new clinical test of
temporal resolution, a lecture on hearing aid fitting optimization,
and a hearing aid repair workshop. Many of our attendees are
interested in providing in-office repair and this presentation will
focus on making repairs as easy as possible. The Exhibit Hall will
open at 1:30pm and will serve as the venue for all of our breaks. This
will give participants an opportunity to learn about the new
innovations in the hearing industry and to network. Participants will
be able to start bidding on silent auction items at the opening until
the close of the Exhibit Hall on Saturday morning. The lectures will
be followed by FLAA President Lisa Almond's Welcome Reception.
Afterwards, everyone is invited to attend the annual FLAA Dinner.
